like many of the greatest italo-disco records, tony espositos 1983 double a-side je-na/pagaia is ridiculously rare. put it this way: if you fancy nabbing yourself an original copy, it will make a serious dent in your wallet. this welcome reissue presents both tracks in their original 12inch glory, mixed with clubs in mind by mariano boncaldo of klein & m.b.o fame. its the a-side thats arguably the pick of the pair, featuring as it does a balearic-friendly blend of dense, bongo-laden rhythms, tribal chants and delay heavy guitars. theres a bit more of a hazy disco bounce to pagaia, which sounds a little like a long lost tullio de piscopo record, all jazz-fusion scat singing, sunny horns and shuffling rhythms.

extremely welcome vinyl reissue for this highly collectible and obscure early 80s jazz-funk-disco fusion lp from david astri. originally released on tiny baltimore label award, the album oozes quality all the way from the excellent opening track, super-cool sexy floor-filler *get down to it* - with standouts including the superb brass-driven funk workout *do it right*, the beautifully delicate and dreamy *safe and sound* and breezy summer groover *everyone has feelings*, both with sweet vocals from karen goldberg. however, the lp saves the best till last with an amazing eight and a half minute version of the wonderful in-demand electro funk boogie burner *dancing digits*, a big play for many discerning djs including harvey, todd terje etc. dont miss your chance to own this fantastic slice of jazz-funk heaven.

when luke solomon got in touch and said he wanted to work with local talk we felt both honoured and happy, especially since we have been fans for a long time and mats actually booked him to his raw fusion club in the late 90s. he has been around long enough to be considered a legend within the scene. we couldnt agree more. lost channels, a 130 bpm piano driven and punk-dubby new york inspired house track comes in two versions. the raw & stripped version is exactly what the name says, sharp snares & hi-hats, piano chords, a driving rhythm with lukes trademark percussion sprinkled on top. the live piano version is actually the original version and is peppered with more of everything. bubbly fx, more of that staccato piano and of course that muscular bassline. for remix duties it is the return of an old local talk friend, wil maddams. it seems like wil has spent some time in detroit since last time. this remix sounds like something that would come straight out of the d, his clever drum programming holds this track together with its deep pads and bubbling bassline. it is a retro (but fresh) techno jam for 2014.
